Catalina Quinn is the daughter of Anthony Quinn and his wife, Katherine DeMille. Catalina’s father, Quinn was a Mexican-American actor, painter, writer, and film director. He was known for his portrayal of earthy, passionate characters “marked by a brutal and elemental virility” in numerous critically acclaimed films both in Hollywood and abroad. Catalina Quinn’s mother DeMille was a Canadian-born American actress who played 25 credited film roles from the mid-1930s to the late 1940s. The adopted daughter of director Cecil B. DeMille, she was considered Hollywood royalty and was noted for her dark beauty. Her first credited role was featured in Viva Villa!.

How did Catalina Quinn’s parents meet? Much information is not available about how Anthony Quinn met his wife, Katherine. However, Quinn’s first wife was the actress DeMille, the couple adopted a daughter of Cecil B. DeMille; they wed in 1937 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills.

The couple had five children: Christopher (1938–1941), Christina (born 1 December 1941), Catalina (born 21 November 1942), Duncan (born 4 August 1945), and Valentina (born 26 December 1952). Their first child, Christopher, aged two, drowned in the lily pond of next-door neighbor W. C. Fields.

In 1965, Catalina Quinn’s parents divorced because of her father’s affair with Italian costume designer Jolanda Addolori (died 2016), whom he married in 1966. They had three children: Francesco Quinn (22 March 1963 – 5 August 2011), Danny Quinn (born 16 April 1964), and Lorenzo Quinn (born 7 May 1966).

After her parents’ divorce, her mother, DeMille retained her married name.

Around 1988, Catalina Quinn’s mother moved from Pacific Palisades to Tucson, Arizona to live with her and her grandchildren. She died of Alzheimer’s disease in Tucson on April 27, 1995. She was 83.

Catalina’s father, Quinn spent his last years in Bristol, Rhode Island. He died of respiratory failure (due to complications from radiation treatment for lung cancer) on 3 June 2001, in Boston, at age 86. Quinn’s funeral was held in the First Baptist Church in America in College Hill, Providence, Rhode Island. 

His wife asked for the permission of Bristol authorities to bury him in his favorite spot in the backyard of his house, near an old maple tree. They had bought the property in 1995; it had a view of the Narragansett Bay. Permission was granted and he was laid to rest there.
