Cushan Stevens’ dad was the fourth of five children, fathered by a part-time amateur actor and managing director of a butcher’s business at Smithfield Market, Ernest Frederick Stevens, and mothered by Ellen Elizabeth Stevens.
Cushan’s daddy’s career unfolded from music hall and cabaret performances to small film parts and radio to television, and finally to movie lead roles. He was frequently using his unique voice, and his costume and props managed to include a monocle, waistcoat, and cigarette holder to illustrate disreputable members of the upper classes. Terry’s striking dress sense was enhanced by a 1⁄3-inch (8.5 mm) gap between his two upper front teeth.
