In 1979, Sonora’s mother got married to her fellow Juilliard sweetheart, Boyd Black but they got divorced in 1981 before graduating. She married Sonora’s father Fred Tillman in 1989. The couple had two daughters, Kelsey and Sonora Tillman. They got divorced in 2002.
Kelly was raped in 1982 by two men in her apartment in New York. One of the rapist, Lorey Johnson who was 15 years old at that time, was sentenced to three years in prison but the other assailant’s charges were dropped due to a lack of corroborative evidence.
A schooner, ‘The Centurion”, a 110-foot valued at $1.5 million which was owned by Kelly and her husband, Fred Tillman was destroyed by fire in April 1996 at a marina in Dania, Florida.
