In 2003, Shane’s father was involved in a car accident after driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and convicted of drunk driving and was sentenced to six months under house arrest. This accident left him partially paralyzed. On February 8, 2020, in his home in Malibu, California, Robert passed away from heart failure at the age of 84.
Due to his hard work, Shane’s father was recognized and honored. In 1984, he was honored with a Walk of Western Stars in Newhall, California.
