Darlene Celeste Beal was born to her mother, Alveda King, and her father Eddie Beal. She had Eddie Clifford Beal III and Jarrett Ellis as her siblings. Darlene’s maternal grandparents are Alfred Daniel Williams King, a civil rights activist, and his wife, Naomi Ruth Barber.

Darlene Beal’s grandfather became a leader of the Birmingham campaign while serving as pastor at the First Baptist Church of Ensley in Ensley near Birmingham, Alabama when Darlene’s mother was at the age of 12 years old.

Darlene’s mother, Alveda King was born on 22 January 1951 in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. Darlene’s mom had six children and has been married and divorced three times. She was married to her first husband Eddie Clifford Beal and later married Jerry Ellis, her second husband. She then got married for the third time to Israel Tookes.

Darlene’s mom is the first of five children of her parents, A. D. King, and his wife Naomi (Barber) King. Darlene’s mom attended Central Michigan University where she studied journalism and sociology, as an undergraduate she received a Master of Arts degree in business management and was given an honorary doctorate from Saint Anselm College.

Darlene Celeste Beal’s mother is also a Fox News Channel contributor as she has once served as a senior fellow at the Alexis de Tocqueville Institution, a conservative Washington, D.C., think tank. From the year 1979 to the year 1982, Darlene’s mother represented the 28th District in the Georgia House of Representatives. The district included Fulton County, and King served as a Democrat.

Darlene’s mother has written a lot of books. She wrote the following books, For generations to come, I Don’t Want Your Man, I Want My Own, Who We Are In Christ Jesus, The Arab Heart, Sons of Thunder: The King Family Legacy, How Can the Dream Survive If We Murder the Children?: Abortion is Not a Civil Right! and more. She has also spoken out against same-sex marriage.

However, Darlene’s mother has been seen in films and on television as both Alveda King and Alveda King Beal. She also produced the musical CD Let Freedom Ring in 2005. The Human Experience, a 2010 documentary film, featured commentary from Alveda King. She co-produced the video “Latter Rain” in 2005 and co-executive-produced Pray for America in 2015.

Darlene Celeste Beal’s mother was appraised as one of the prominent black figures on the American religious right by Angela D. Dillard.
