Coco and her sisters were sent to Aubazine, an orphanage. That is where she learned how to sew. Having learned to sew during her six years stay at Aubazine, Coco was employed as a seamstress. She loved to sing, so when she is not sewing, she is singing. She usually sang in a cabaret frequented by cavalry officers.

Alphonse’s sister made her debut singing at a Cafe-concert in Moulins pavilion, La Rotonde. She performed to entertain the crowd between star turns.
