Sarah Cannon Chapman’s mother, Amy Lee Grant is a popular American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, and musician. She was born on 25 November 1960 in Augusta, Georgia. 

Amy is the great-granddaughter of A. M Burton the founder of Life and Casualty Insurance Company, an epithet of Nashville’s Life and Casualty Tower, WLAC Radio, and WLAC-television, and Lillie Burton. Amy has said her influence to go into music was because of her great-grandfather, starting with their common membership in Nashville’s Ashwood Church of Christ.

Sarah’s mother attended Harpeth Hall School, an all-girls school in Nashville, where she performed her first song the Mountain Top, which she wrote in 1976. She recorded a demo tape with her church youth leader Brown Bannister for her parents. 

Amy recorded her first album in 1977, produced by Brown Bannister, who also produced her next 11 albums. She released the album in early 1978, a month before she graduated from high school. At the end of 1987, she performed her first ticketed concert after beginning her first year at Furman University.

She met her ex-husband Gary Chapman in May 1979, at the album-release party for her second album, My Father’s Eyes. Gary Chapman wrote the title track.  Amy and Gary together toured in the mid-1979. The couple got married on 19 June, 1982 but in March 1999, Sarah’s mother filed for a divorce from Gary, stating her reason for the divorce as “irreconcilable difference” and the divorce was finalized three months later. They had three children together.

Amy married country singer and songwriter Vince Gill on 10 March, 2000. They had a daughter together, Corrina Grant Gill, born on March 12, 2001.

In the November 1999 CCM Magazine, Amy explained why she left Gary and Married Vince: 

I didn’t get a divorce because ‘I had a great marriage and then along came Vince Gill.’ Gary and I had a rocky road from day one. I think what was so hard—and this is (what) one of our counselors said—sometimes an innocent party can come into a situation, and they’re like a big spotlight. What they do is reveal, by comparison, the painful dynamics that are already in existence.

She had an open-heart surgery in June 2020 to repair partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR), a congenital heart condition. 

She got hurt when she fell from her bicycle while riding near Nashville’s Harpeth Hill Golf Course on 27 July, 2022. She sustained some cuts and abrasions. 

Sarah’s mother have had a lot of awards and achievements such as her album My Father’s Eyes getting nominated in Best Gospel Performance, Contemporary or Inspirational in 1979 and a lot others.
